Like a 19th century Romantic Period ballerina, a flower-crowned model holding a bunch of red balloons floats above the crowd in a tutu-like tulle skirt. She is showcasing one of the never-before-seen spring/summer looks at online fashion startup Shoptiques.com’s first birthday party, held on March 21 at the hip SoHo restaurant Galli. This skirt exemplifies its motto—“Be Yourself. Be Different”—plastered in huge black letters on the wall of Shoptiques.com’s office, which is just as eclectic as the clothes it sells from local boutiques.

i’m so pleased to see that allison williams is the new cover girl for town & country magazine’s april issue. i stood next to her backstage at jason wu’s fall 2013 show, and she is just as graceful, poised, and polite as she looks in the pictures. i always knew her as the art gallery star on girls and brian williams’s daughter. but after reading t&c’s feature of her, she is my new role model.

i was surprised to learn that her parents didn’t let her take profession acting jobs until after college. instead, she had a solid childhood with a strong liberal arts education at yale. clearly, that didn’t prevent her from having a successful career.

what i really like about her is that despite being an it-girl in the crazy entertainment world, she chooses to make admirable decisions. post-college, she stopped drinking and late-night unhealthy eating. plus, she doesn’t do nudity scenes and maintains a classy but stylish look on the red carpet.

when my roomie adriana and i flipped through the pictures of jason wu’s pre-fall collection, we kept commenting on how everything was “so adriana” - old hollywood with a darker twist, yet simultaneously had feminine silhouettes.

i always associated shiny black leather with jackets - a little too rocker/biker for my taste. recently, i’ve been fascinated by the idea of leather dresses. this dress is edgy but feminine enough with the chiffon halter and pleats in the skirt to be added to my list of favorite dresses.

i’m a huge fan of collaborations of high and low fashion, especially the target tie. i own several items from the missoni/target collection and of course, i loved the jason wu/target pieces.

i first fell in love with prabal gurung’s work when i saw the radiant purple and floral prints in his spring 2012 collection. i’m intoxicated with the flirty patterns and bright sulfur color in his just-released lookbook for his target collection. the stages-of-love theme is adorable, but i’m most impressed by the way prabal was able to incorporate his signature style, such as his kaleidoscope and mirror floral prints, into this collection and make it look straight off the runway.

i used to think brunch was a strange concept, because i like having three meals a day. but when the opportunity to host a potluck brunch for my home church’s college small group came about, i decided to give it a try. it turned out to be quite a spread with broccoli quiche (used my mom’s delicious recipe!) plus fresh bagels, croissants, and fruit. winter break reunion success!

originally, i wasn’t going to do new year’s resolutions, because i always forget about them. but i am a goal-oriented person, and today, i had a sudden urge to do so. just for the fun of it, i took a look at my 2012 resolutions, and surprisingly, i am able to check off every single item from the list. so here’s my 2013 resolutions:

strive to glorify god in everything i do
handle difficult situations gracefully
live a healthy lifestyle
relax over things i cannot control
aim to do the right thing and make good decisions
enjoy my semester
invest in and deepen friendships

gimme gimme morchesis was a very memorable show as it was my second (and last) show as a board member. with a britney spears theme and up-beat and creative choreography, it was our best show to date (in my opinion). i had a blast dancing in a jazz piece. but the most special part was opening the show with “gimme more” with the board members. i will miss working with the orchyboard, but i can testify that being a board member was one of my favorite experiences of college.

one of the highlights of my fall break was going to the guggenheim with grace for the picasso black and white exhibition. it was my first time going to this museum, and i was in awe of the architecture of the building - the exterior and the use of ramps with little alcoves is a work of art itself.

i’ve become a big picasso fan since taking 20th century art, so i loved this retrospective of his art. it was very unique in that the curators strictly picked out only works that were done in black and white. i don’t think i’ve ever seen a show curated solely on color. its location in the all-white museum was genius.

i’m used to picasso’s hard, angular images, so i was taken aback by his softer images, such as this portrait of his lover marie-therese walter.

grace also pointed out the maids of honor (las meninas, after velasquez), in which she had seen some of the forty-four versions in barcelona. i got very excited, because i’m obsessed with the complex original painting by velasquez. i had no idea that picasso created a painting after velasquez, let alone forty-four of them!
