i finally went to see the “schiaparelli and prada: impossible conversations” exhibition at the met with valerie. going to the met’s annual fashion exhibits are are one of my most cherished beginning-of-summer activities.
while not as thrilling as the mcqueen exhibit, it was creatively curated. looking at the similarities and differences between elsa schiparelli and miuccia prada’s takes on themes like “the classical body” and “ugly chic” was a historical fashion study. the simulated discussions between the two designers was quite amusing.
the “naif chic” section was my favorite. it was focused on young, girly designs. a look from the prada spring 2011 rtw collection was something i definitely would wear. though i’m hesitant about paring patterns, the exotic monkey print top and hot pink striped skirt doesn’t clash at all. i was also excited to see that shirt, because i recognized it from selena gomez’s teen vogue photo shoot, which i loved.
